Times Union Classroom Enrichment
Seasonal Times Union Sections

Looking for some of the special educational or student-based sections that the Times Union inserts into their newspaper? Look no further. Here are a couple of pdfs of those sections. If you’re looking for a specific section and don’t see it here, e-mail us at gstapleton@classroomenrichment.org and we’ll see if we can get it to you.

Scholar Recognition section (2008)
High schools from throughout the Capital Region choose students who are not only at the top of their class, but are also doing great work in their communities. These students then pick the teacher that has most inspired them. Both the teacher and the student are then honored in the section.

Scholar-Athlete section (2008)
Local high schools pick a leading male and female scholar-athlete. A special committee of local college athletic department members then picks the top five of those. All the students are honored in this special section.

Sponsor-A-Scholar (2008)
Each year, Sponsor-A-Scholar helps local students at Albany High School, Schenectady High School and Troy High School prepare for college. For more information about this group, click here. (Sponsor-A-Scholar website)

LiveSmart
This special page appears each Wednesday in the Times Union. Produced in conjunction with St. Peter’s Health Care Service, Price Chopper, CDPHP, WNYT and the Community Foundation for the Capital Region, it takes a close look at family health issues, often offering advice to help you live a “LiveSmart” life.

YMCA Black and Latino Achievers Program section (2008)
Each year, the YMCA honors adults and students in the Capital Region for their participation in the Black and Latino Achievers Program. The Black & Latino Achievers Program reaches into the heart of the community for both adult and teen achievers. By recognizing and utilizing the talents of successful professionals and community leaders, the program brings a much needed positive influence into the lives of young people. Every student stands to gain from the program. (Black and Latino Achievers Program website)
